My sketching seems to be pretty consistent. I usually draw a rough sketch in Pencil, then I take a picture of it with my phone, since I no longer have a scanner. Then I email it to myself, load it into Illustrator and I make a line drawing. It was done on some techniques I learned years ago from www.DaniDraws.com, but those tutorials do not seem to on the website anymore.
Anyway, I load it into Photoshop as a Smart Object and color. I need to try to branch out from this comic strip style and go into some other styles.
Anyway here's the evil Narwhale Mentalist:

Balls, this was pretty much the image I was picturing.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered doing the sketches right in Illustrator?
You do loose a bit of flexibility but I find it becomes a lot easier to stumble upon something that works.
I love the eyebrows and mustache, the varied color really fits with the style.
If I was going to crit this I would say that the linethat separates the head is a little much...I feel it causes more division between head and body than needed...possibly a line under the chin would have been enough.
The line work on the back could have been dropped and just let the color do its work.
